about me and my textile art

In 2000 I was accepted into the Textile Art Studio of the Academy of Arts, Design and Architecture in Prague where I received a master’s degree.

Hand woven Cave Tapestry, wool 150 x 180 cm (2000-2001)
- my first tapestry made on a big Frame Loom as a part of my studding project.

2006 I graduated with

"Wanderings" Installation

The Wanderings installation was conceived and created by Markéta Vogelová, a 2006 graduate from the Textile Arts Studio of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. The installation is composed of several large-format oil paintings and a twelve-meter long, monumental scroll made by a special technique called ikat (a form of painting on the warp). It is a multilayered visual parable of the birth of the desert, color, and light that incorporates the artist’s strong visual experiences from the desert landscapes she encountered while on a study stay at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem. The series of broadly conceived canvases and smaller sketches creates a type of commentary on the double-sided scroll, whose narrative is loosely based on the first two books of the Bible: Bereshit (Genesis) and Shemoth (Exodus). Similar to the scrolls containing sacred Jewish texts, the Wanderings story is told in a non-linear, cyclical manner, in which a highly specific conception of time and space and their interconnectedness offer a wide variety of readings. The installation is part of the Year of Jewish Culture, a yearlong cycle of events to mark the centennial of the Jewish Museum in Prague, and it accompanies the exhibition Form of the Scroll (June 22-July 7 2006, Robert Guttmann Gallery, U Staré školy 3, Prague 1), which explores the phenomenon of the scroll in Judaism as a means of preserving and transmitting texts.

2008 - 2011 in Prague I also taught textile techniques in a high school for students with special education needs.
Students were working on the design of my colleague's and mines, but we were guiding them to be able to prepare their own designs too...
