ABOUT MARKETA:

Marketa is a visual artist from Prague in the Czech Republic, now living and working in Mérida, Yucatán, México. She received a master’s degree in Textile Art from the Academy of Arts, Design and Architecture in Prague, where she also taught textile techniques in a high school for students with special education needs. She arrived in Merida in 2011 and has dedicated time at TRAMANTES, a weaving workshop and also gave weaving courses at HABLA - The Center for Language and Culture and KORKOBI Design Studio. Now she is giving FRAME LOOM WEAVING CLASSES in the Textile Studio KIH and The Cultural Center Mayahuel.

Working on my ikat scroll

2006: Graduated with the "Wanderings", an installation composed by integrating several large-format oil paintings with a twelve meter monumental textile scroll, made by the "ikat" process, a special technique inspired by the native nations. The installation was part of the "Year of Jewish Culture" festival a yearlong cycle of events which mark the centennial of the Jewish Museum in Prague. It was part of the exhibition "Form of the Scroll" at the Robert Guttmann Gallery in Prague, which explored the phenomenon of the scroll in Judaism, as a means of preserving and transmitting texts.
